Jill Duncan is Programme Leader and Senior Lecturer in Education at the Department of Social Work, Education and Community Wellbeing at Northumbria, where she has been based since 2014. Prior to this, she successfully fulfilled many different school-based roles across sectors including leadership activity and international partnership work in Sweden. 

In her current role she is responsible for programme and module leadership across postgraduate and undergraduate programmes together with subject specific delivery in Art and Design. She enjoys working in collaboration with The Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art to support enhancement opportunities for students.  

Jill has worked on international developments such as delivering transformative CPD to qualified primary and secondary teachers in Beijing, China as part of an internal working group.  

Jill is a member of the British Educational Research Association (BERA) and Fuse (Centre for Translational Research in Public Health). Recent research themes include project-based learning, creative approaches to outdoor learning and an ethic of care within Higher Education. 

Jill is currently undertaking a PhD focusing upon a holistic input style including academic, pastoral and professional strands for postgraduate distance-based students within Initial Teacher Education (ITE). She has presented aspects of her doctoral research regionally, nationally and internationally at conference level.
