Dr Hoang Nguyen

Assistant Professor

Department: Mechanical and Construction Engineering

Hoang Nguyen is currently an Assistant Professor at the Department of Mechanical and Construction Engineering. Hoang is a structural engineer with a background in value engineering and structural analysis of residential houses and office buildings. Prior to joining Northumbria, he was a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the School of Engineering, University of Glasgow where he worked on the fracture analyses and structural integrity of graphite bricks in UK nuclear power plants within a project funded by EDF Energy. Before that, Hoang finished his PhD at Northumbria University where his work focused on the numerical prediction of structural/mechanical behaviours of functionally graded microstructures by means of generalised continua and isogeometric analysis. He also worked for more than three years in the industry before pursuing an academic career.
