She began her nurse career in Theatres specialising in Women and Children’s health before qualifying as a Health Visitor. She then went on to work as a Sexual Health Advisor across North Yorkshire where she was able to work collaboratively with a range of services and organisations which included the Military, Primary Care, Secondary Education & Youth Services .
Emma’s first role within the university was as a senior lecturer/practitioner taking the lead in implementing a workforce development initiative called Northumbria Integrated Sexual Health Education (NISHE) for post qualified nurses across County Durham & Darlington. This involved the development & delivery of e-learning educational materials along with supporting students in the practice setting. In 2012, Emma joined the pre-registration nurse team where she has been able to introduce, develop and co-ordinate e-learning packages on the programme.
Along with teaching pre-registration healthcare, Emma has maintained her post-registration nurse teaching within sexual health, safeguarding and public health. She is also a member of the workforce development team based at the Northern Design Centre working in collaboration with external partners to create education packages to develop the workforce.
In 2015, Emma became involved and is now programme lead for Northumbria University’s new innovative programme for Professional Non-Surgical Aesthetic Practice. She has worked collaboratively with experts in aesthetic practice to develop educational materials to enable the practitioners to meet the Health Education England(HEE,2015) recommended Standards PART ONE: Qualification requirements for delivery of cosmetic procedures: Non-surgical cosmetic interventions and hair restoration surgery & PART TWO: Report on implementation of qualification requirements for cosmetic procedures: Non-surgical cosmetic interventions and hair restoration surgery.

My first role within the university was as a senior Lecturer/Practitioner,聽 taking the lead in implementing a workforce development initiative called Northern Integrated Sexual Health Education (NISHE) for post qualified nurses across County Durham & Darlington. This involved developing and delivery of elearning educational materials along with supporting students in the practice setting. The programme was then franchised out to the University of West England where I was able to also take on the role of project manager to aid delivery of the programme.
In 2012, I joined the pre-registration nursing team where I have been able to introduce, develop and co-ordinate e-learning packages on the programme. Along with teaching pre-registration nursing, I have maintained my post registration nurse teaching with sexual health, safeguarding and public health in the Specialist Community Public Health Nurse programme, where I am persoanl tutor for those following the Sexual Health Advisor route.聽
I was a memeber of the workforce development team, working in collaboration with external partners such as Public Health England, Local Commissioning groups undertaking research and scoping projects with the view of creating educational packages to develop the workforce.
As well as teaching across both these programmes, in 2015, I became involved in and now Programme Lead for Northumbria University's innovative programme Professional Non-Surgical Aesthetic Practice. I have worked collaboratively with experts in aesthetic practice to develop eduactional materials to enable practitioners to meet the requirements for registration on to the Joint Council of Cosmetic Practitioners register.聽 聽聽
