The Non-Medical Prescribing module consists of 38 days of prescribing preparation which includes:
The module can be studied at level 6 (degree) or at level 7 (masters). This must be undertaken at the same level as your V100/V150 qualification. You can find this out by checking your own academic records.
The non-medical prescribing modules at Northumbria University are currently funded by NHS England, and therefore providing applicants meet the NHS England criteria, they will have no fees applied to them personally. Students will be made aware if fees are applicable during the application process.
Please ensure that you complete the application for the level you wish to study. This is shown in the course title.
The prescribing qualification / authority of independent and supplementary prescribing relates to regulatory and legal permissions.
In order to assist you in completing your application we have included a link to guidance notes via the links at the end of this webpage. Please refer to these while completing your application. You must also read the 'Pre Course Information' via the link at the end of this website page. This contains essential information which you must review prior to completing your application form.
As part of your application you will need to upload a copy of your completed Prescribing Authorisations Form to the Experience – CV section of the application (please find a link for the form via the link at the end of this webpage). If you do not attach your approval form to your application, or it is incomplete this will delay your application and may impact you being offered a place on the module.
On occasion we may ask for a self-assessment of Education Environment (where you work) if this is not a clinical environment we have established links with. If you need to complete this, we will send the information to you on application. This must be completed before we can fully confirm a place on the course.

Practice Assessor and Supervisor Preparation
The module will be a blended delivery, therefore some days will be on campus and some days will be online. For September students the course will run on Thursdays and for the January students the course will run on Mondays. Please reserve the above days in your off duty until the confirmed timetable is provided to you at the start of the course.
Please Note:
For applicants who wish to undertake V300 (non-medical prescribing) as part of the Health and Social Practice Framework – please note additional checks are required in order to ensure you are fully prepared to undertake this module and in accordance with PSRB requirements. These additional checks must be carried out at least 6 weeks prior to module start. For applicants wishing to undertake this module in September, all checks must be completed by the 18th August, for January start, checks must be completed by 29th November, therefore, programme application and acceptance of offer must be completed before these dates

Our prescribing team include subject specialist tutors and prescribers who are actively engaged in researching the prescribing landscape and contributing to contemporary prescribing knowledge and practice. We aim for this to be a transformational learning process where you will engage in interactive, interesting and motivating learning experiences, which will help you towards confident and competent prescribing decisions. We will support you to engage in interactive and social learning opportunities through tutor directed learning activities, peer learning groups, e-learning activities, interactive mobile applications, seminars, peer review as well as group and individual tutorials. We also have a fabulous virtual learning suite where you can immerse yourself in a range of interactive applications including human anatomy and physiology.
The taught days within the module are delivered at Coach Lane Campus where you will also have access to our award-winning library, clinical skills centre and virtual learning facilities. Over the course of the module, you will work in partnership with your practice supervisor/designated prescribing practitioner to identify opportunities for you to apply and integrate learning of clinical, legal and professional requirements alongside current available evidence to support your prescribing journey towards achievement of competence in practice. Your designated prescribing practitioner / practice supervisor or assessor (NMC) will assess your progress towards achievement of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society competencies in practice. Our specialist academic tutors will support your learning and will work with your designated prescribing practitioner/practice assessors to monitor your progress through the module to completion.

The professional award of V300 and prescribing authority, independent and supplementary prescribing, is the same regardless of level of study. Completion at degree level provides an academic award of 20 degree (level 6 equivalent) credits and at masters of 20 masters (level 7 equivalent) credits. There are differences in the assessment of degree and masters level as detailed on page 8.

You will need to state your choice by selecting the correct level at application point. Please give careful consideration when choosing your level of study, degree or masters. You will not be able to change the level of study once the course has started.
The module (with RPL) includes two elements of assessment• 1) Achievement of Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) competencies in clinical practice with OSCE, CMP, service user feedback & personal reflection, 2) a written assignment to include an academic poster. Students must pass each of these four assessments to achieve the award. There is no compensation between assessments.
Successful completion of all components of this module will lead to the achievement of a recordable prescribing qualification (Independent and/or Supplementary Prescriber) with the Nursing and Midwifery Council

1. Provide a personal statement that details your post qualification practice, and identifies you as established and expert clinicians in your field. Learning must have been robustly consolidated and demonstrated in line with knowledge, skills, and competence.
2. Your named authoriser must supply a supporting reference. Detail of professional relationship and level of competence must be included.
3. Your authoriser must be a professional registrant practicing in your area of practice.
4. Provide a completed education audit, and employer risk assessment and insurance form.
