Mark Sewart 2 255Mark qualified as an RGN in 1992 and joined the Regular Army, having been a Territorial officer, in 1997.聽 He thereafter worked as an Operating Theatre Charge Nurse in the UK and on deployed operations until he undertook the BMedSci (Hons) course at Sheffield University and qualified as an RN(Mental Health) in 2002.聽 After transferring to the RAF in 2004, he qualified as a Flight Nursing Officer and gained an MSc in War & Psychiatry from Kings College London in 2009, all whilst serving as Officer Commanding of the Department of Community Mental Health, RAF Brize Norton.

For the last three years of his service Mark was a Senior Lecturer at the Defence School of Healthcare Education, where he achieved Registered Nurse Teacher status and gained a further Masters degree in Education.聽

On leaving the RAF, Mark was appointed to a Senior Lecturer鈥檚 post at Anglia Ruskin University, where he completed the development of and subsequently launched and ran their innovative online MSc in Military Veterans and Families Studies.聽 He was a founding member and Research Fellow of ARU鈥檚 Veterans and Families Institute.

Mark鈥檚 PhD study is looking in detail at the authentic, personal experiences of service families as reported by the families themselves, through narrative biography.
